On any given Friday, thousands upon thousands (maybe even millions) of Twitter users enter the hashtag #FollowFriday (or #FF), followed by one or more “mentions.” While you don’t really need to know much about Twitter, hashtags or mentions (foreign terms to anyone unfamiliar with Tweeting), you might be interested in the concept of FollowFriday. The idea is for users to share the names of other “interesting people” that they follow and think you should too. These recommendations serve as positive comment cards for the digitally inclined.
A Twitter Search Shows How Popular #FollowFriday is
FollowFriday is a fantastic concept and I have decided to free it of it’s Twitter chains, or at least “borrow.” Here at JumpstartMyPC.com, we try to provide you with any information that helps you get the most out of your computer and we often do this in the form of reviews, how-to’s and links within our articles. In some cases, the site, person or service that we want to share doesn’t really lend itself to a full article, so we will use this FollowFriday concept as a way of highlighting the interesting people, places and things that you should know about or be following yourself.

Groupon.com is actually a site we have written about before, but worth mentioning again. Daily deals in your city (about 52 major cities so far) are presented as coupons that give you as much as 50% local restaurants, memberships, gyms, massages, etc. Simply sign up for their daily emails, follow on Facebook or Twitter. The deals are fantastic and the savings amazing. I have seen several coupons for businesses I already frequent and know quite a few people who are taking advantage of this service already.

Mashable.com is my favorite web site of 2009. If you consider yourself a tech-friendly person and you like to keep up with the most recent news in social media, then Mashable is for you too. “The Social Media Guide” covers all the latest and greatest on Facebook, YouTube, Google, Android, Apple, Palm, etc. They post multiple articles daily and the writing is great. There are already over 2.4 million people following Mashable. Why not check it out?

Failblog.org is Funny! I really don’t have to comment more, but I will. Fail.com is user provided content at it’s best. Videos, pictures and articles of people being people. The content can sometimes be a little out of the PG range, but is always funny. (I actually just got sidetracked for 15 minutes while looking at this site. I actually forgot how funny it was) This is a must-add daily site that you will find yourself visiting over and over.
