FollowFriday – Friday, March 05, 2010

March 5th, 2010       Author: Chris Sully

FollowFriday : On any given Friday, thousands upon thousands (maybe even millions) of Twitter users enter the hashtag #FollowFriday (or #FF), followed by one or more “mentions.”   The idea is for users to share the names of other “interesting people” that they follow and think you should too.  These recommendations serve as positive comment cards for the digitally inclined.

JumpstartMyPC.com has decided to bring FollowFriday to our blog.  Read on and, if you are so inclined, add these “interesting people” to your own list.

FollowFriday – Round 2

Woot.com is the originator of One Day, One Deal.  The concept is simple, a new item goes on sale every day at midnight.  The item is on sale until 11:59pm (central time) or until they are sold out of that item.  Woot.com’s focus is “selling cool stuff cheap” and they always ship for $5.  They have been doing this for years and I have been following for at least 4 years myself.  The woot! style of business became so popular that other retailers, including Amazon.com, Buy.com and Target.com have started their own One  Day, One Deal selling strategies.  In the last 2 or 3 years, woot! has branched off into several sites, including kids.woot!, shirt.woot!, sellout.woot! and wine.woot!.

Bonus: On rare occasions woot! will switch to a woot-off!  That’s multiple items throughout the day.  These are far-and-few between and fun to follow.

Woot! Posts a New Deal Every Day

Engadget.com has been an “every-day” site for me over the last 5 years. “Engadget is a web magazine with obsessive daily coverage of everything new in gadgets and consumer electronics.  Engadget was launched in March of 2004 in partnership with the Weblogs, Inc. Network (WIN). ” - taken from their Facebook description.  If you like gadgets and want to stay up-to-date on the most recent releases and industry-news, this is the place to be.

ThereIFixedIt.com is funny.. and sad!  User-submitted images of “kludges” are posted daily, for your amusement.  A kludge, in case you were wondering, is defined as “a workaround, a quick-and-dirty solution, a clumsy or inelegant, yet effective, solution to a problem, typically using parts that are cobbled together.”  Take a look at the hundreds of photos of “fixed” homes, cars, patios, plumbing-jobs, etc.  You’ll laugh out-loud, I promise.  Maybe you even have some photos of your own to submit to this hilarious site.
