FollowFriday – Friday, March 19, 2010

March 19th, 2010       Author: Chris Sully

FollowFriday : On any given Friday, thousands upon thousands (maybe even millions) of Twitter users enter the hashtag #FollowFriday (or #FF), followed by one or more “mentions.” The idea is for users to share the names of other “interesting people” that they follow and think you should too. These recommendations serve as positive comment cards for the digitally inclined.

JumpstartMyPC.com has decided to bring FollowFriday to our blog. Read on and, if you are so inclined, add these “interesting people” to your own list.

FollowFriday – Round 4

Amazon.com Gold Box is great site for the bargain-hunters out there.  Much like Woot.com, the Gold Box offers a Deal of the Day (one item at one incredibly low price) but they also have Lightning Deals (only good for a few hours at a time) and Best Deals.  The items offered up range from electronics to movies to gym equipment and everything in between.  On some days, the Lightning Deals section follows a theme, like gaming or movies.

BONUS: We are such a fan of Amazon Gold Box that we put their “widget” on our main blog page.  Check back with JumpstartMyPC.com blog daily for new articles and keep an eye on the Amazon Deal of the Day at the same time. (located on the “sidebar” on the right-hand side)

Facebook: surprisingly, the Gold Box does not have a Facebook presence

The Gold Box Has New Deals Every Day

uncrate.com is a site for those who like to keep an eye on the latest and greatest “gear.”  As their web site explains, “Uncrate is a web magazine for guys who love stuff. Our team digs up the best gadgets, clothes, cars, DVDs and more. New items are posted daily. Enjoy responsibly.”  While the content might be aimed at men, I think the actual items are a bit more universal.  Items range in price from a few dollars to $TBA, since many of the items are yet to be released or are just too far out there for the average person to afford.

Crave is another blog site focused on gadgets and tech.  The blog is brought to us by cnet (the same people that introduced download.com years ago) and provides users with multiple, fact-filled posts every day.  Readers familiar with Engadget and Gizmodo will find Crave familiar but worth checking out.  The site is very simple, with limited advertising and interruptions.

The only complaint I have with crave is the amazing lack of social networking distribution.  While they provide users with options to retweet and/or share on Facebook, they seem to have no presence on Twitter or Facebook themselves.  Maybe I just missed it, but I couldn’t find a dedicated page for them on either site.
