If I told you that I could give you detailed instructions on how to save $1,000 or more per year, would it be worth an hour of your time? No, this is not a pitch to get you trapped in a room with time-share vultures. This is legitimate information on saving money on your energy consumption and it is 100% FREE! That’s right, thanks to a BETA service from Micorsoft called Hohm, you can begin analyzing your energy consumption and saving money almost immediately. All you have to do is invest the time and supply Hohm with the necessary information about you residence and past consumption.
Before you jump in and begin entering information, lets take a look at this service. According to the press release issued by Microsoft (June, 2009), Hohm is a “new online application that enables consumers to better understand their energy usage, get recommendations and start saving money.” Recommendations are tailored to the individual home, based on house features, usage patterns and appliance information provided by the user. As a user, you can also compare your usage to neighbors and gain access to the community of participants online to share ideas and compare savings.

QUESTION: Why is it that Microsoft, who produces the world’s most popular operating system, doesn’t provide users with simple, easy-to-use software solutions to the common problems found in many of computers still in use today?
At the risk of costing myself some paying customers and making my job look easier than it is, I am going to share a little secret with you. Microsoft has attempted to answer a question that I have been asking for years (see above) by releasing a software that can help to fix your common PC problems. That’s right, the new Microsoft Fix it Center (now in public BETA) is out there, ready to help PC users get the bugs out of their computer.

As the title says “Don’t Panic!!” Instead, it is time to read up, comprehend and act to protect yourself from the latest epic security threat of 2010, titled Aurora. In the following paragraphs, we will explain (in easy to follow terms) what Aurora is, why you should care and what you should do next. Do not stop reading now! If you read even one of our articles from start to finish this year, this should be the one.
The internet has become a hostile place and it is up to you to protect yourself from the threats and attacks that WILL appear from time to time. The information and tools are there. You must simply educate yourself and be willing to invest a little time. A shocking title for the article, but I really wanted to get your attention. It’s for your own good.
Microsoft recently launched the free Security Essentials package for Windows. Much like avast! Home Edition (our favorite) or AVG Free, the software package aims at providing anti-virus and anti-spyware protection for the home PC user for FREE! Apparently, they were also doing a little research about the users that installed the software and what was found on the PCs it was installed on.
According to an interview with Amy Barzdukas (general manager, Internet Explorer and consumer security at Microsoft) “well over 30% of people who are downloading it are requiring a fair amount of cleaning.” In the full article One-Third of Security Essentials users infected : Microsoft (found on itwire.com), Amy notes the details of their findings, but that 30% quote was enough to grab my attention and I hope it will do the same for you.

Stop just about anyone and ask them what software they would use to write a paper. Chances are very strong that they will say “Word” or “Office.” The name has become as synonymous with computer word processing as Kleenex has to the tissue. Now ask 100 people the same question and you might get a handful that say something else, like Open Office or Word Perfect. You have at least heard of Word Perfect, but what is Open Office?
