The CLEAR Spot Voyager – Mobile Internet Love

Sunday, February 12th, 2012

People are accessing the internet in many different ways and from many different devices.  Smartphones, tablets, music players, portable gaming devices, eReaders and other gadgets are being used to check email, update facebook, tweet, play games and (oh yeah) surf the web.  Not only are people using these gadgets more and more every day, they are doing it while on-the-go.  Mobile internet is no longer a luxury, it is becoming a necessity.

With every company offering you the newest device AND a 3G plan (ALERT – monthly cost) things could get out of hand quickly.  You can shell out several hundred dollars a month to stay connected or you can get one device to cover it all – a personal hotspot.

Search History Everywhere – Never Forget a URL Again

Thursday, August 5th, 2010

Years ago (not that many), there were only 1 or 2 places that you might find yourself searching the web, home or work.  Now, thanks to laptops, iPhones, iPads, portable game systems and a myriad of high-speed internet connections (Wi-Fi, WiMax, 3G, 4G, etc.) you can surf the web from just about anywhere you can imagine.

The freedom to surf on-the-go is still fairly new and so are the challenges associated with doing so.  One problem that crops up occasionally is finding a site that you have already visited.  Maybe you were out gymnastics practice with the kids, surfing the web with your CLEAR USB modem, or sitting in a movie theater playing on your iPhone (before the show started of course),  when you went to Google and searched for something that caught your eye.  Three days later, you realize that you want to revisit that site, but you can’t remember the URL or enough information to locate it again via a Google search.  You also find yourself lost in the “where was I and which device was I using when I looked at….” struggle.

A Better Commute with Technology on the Park and Ride

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

The idea of telecommuting (working from home) has appealed to me for a long, long time.  Imagine working for a salary and never having to leave your house.  The time spent commuting, breaking for lunch and sitting in meetings could be transferred to a quick trip to the mailbox, a little time on the treadmill or simply a rerun of Seinfeld while you ate your sandwich.  For many, this is not an option, but what if you could find a happy medium between office and working from home?  For me, that new medium is the park and ride.

CLEAR 4G Launching in Houston – The Skeptic’s View

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

Several days from now (May 1st) CLEAR will begin a huge advertising campaign in the Houston area.  The city will be “covered” in the bright green (their company color) and CLEAR logo.  Electronics retailers, like Best Buy and Micro Center, will have displays and sales people demonstrating the CLEAR 4G high-speed internet service and answering questions.  Some of your friends, family and co-workers will sign up and begin using the product.  The entire city will be exposed to CLEAR in some way and some of us will take the next logical step, research.

If you are anything like me, your research will encompass several resources and a large dose of skepticism.  After all, when something sounds this good, there must be a catch.  What are they not telling us about the product?  With this article, I hope to provide you with something that you will not get anywhere else, a personal look at the product and the service here in the Houston, TX area.

WiMAX Will Change the Way You Surf, Think and Live

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

Have you ever wished that you had high-speed internet access available to you everywhere you went?  Have you ever been frustrated because your mobile device (laptop, game system, music player) seems almost handicapped by the lack of free Wi-Fi around the city?  Do you have a “smart phone” that allows you to surf the internet on the go but avoid using it because it is slow, the screen is too small and/or web sites seem more difficult to navigate?  This is exactly how I felt, until the introduction of WiMAX in my area.

WiMAX is a new internet service that allows users to access the internet wherever they are, wirelessly.  At home, in your car, at the park, at a coffee shop…. the possibilities are limitless.  Depending on your city and the coverage provided by your local distributor, WiMax covers hundreds to thousands of square miles and allows you to enjoy true high-speed internet on the go.  Imagine how having high-speed internet access anywhere/anytime could change the way you surf, think and live.

This 4G (fourth generation) service is not available everywhere in the US now, but major cities and surrounding areas are being added constantly.  To date, WiMAX is available in over 25 cities of the United States (covering 10 states) and overseas.
