One month from today hoards of shoppers will storm the Black Friday sales of local department stores and malls. These warriors of the holiday season will be armed with only their shopping cart and a list of items to pick up for their family members and friends. If you are on one of those lists, you have to ask yourself what exactly will someone be buying for you OR you could prepare everyone you know by supplying them with a wish list of items that you REALLY want.
If someone slid a piece of paper in front of you right now and said “give me a list of items you would want to unwrap this holiday season,” would you be able to do it? Better yet, would you be able to provide a range of items and an idea of what they cost? Honestly, Grandma is probably not going to buy you that new iPad, so you better have some other options for her to choose from. Putting together a list like this takes more than a few minutes, and that is where an online holiday wish list comes into play.

Anyone who loves gadgets or new electronics has been burned before. You shell out your hard-earned cash for the “latest and greatest” widget and rush home, only to find that it doesn’t perform as promised or hold up for more than 6 months before it stops working. In an age of smart phones, universal remotes, netbooks, HD video cameras, etc. this can be an expensive and frustrating occurrence. Luckily, this digital age also provides us with the internet and the ability to research before we head out to the big-box, retail electronics store. The trick then becomes weeding through the information and determining if the article/site is an advertisement or an honest review of the product in question.
Over the last few weeks, I have written several articles on my switch from DirecTV to a TiVo Premiere setup. Yesterday, I received a series of questions from one of my readers (thanks Dave) and thought that the answers to his questions would make a great article. This way, everyone would benefit from the responses and maybe begin asking some questions of their own. His questions and my responses are outlined below.

Yesterday, we detailed the use of online wish lists in organizing and sharing Christmas/holiday gift lists. The article 51 Days Until Christmas – What’s On Your Wish List was a popular one and we received some great feedback from a few of our readers, so I decided to dig deeper and reveal some additional information that might be helpful for you all.
I began testing the different online wish list services yesterday afternoon and through much of the morning. On each of the 5 sites we mentioned yesterday, I created a profile and added gifts to my list. I also took the time to search and view the lists of other users, so I could get a feel for things from both sides of the fence. All of the sites I reviewed were functional and easy-to-use, but I realized that each user might be looking for some very specific things out of a service like this. I analyzed each site and compared them to put together a list of features that I found important. Below are my findings.
