Woot! – Cool Stuff Cheap

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

Are you a fan of really great deals?  Do you like electronics, gadgets, t-shirts and/or wine?  That list might sound odd, but it pales in comparison to the name of one of our favorite sites…. Woot!  Woot is another one of those “must visit” sites that guided me to create JumpstartMyPC.com.  I’ve been sharing the Woot with anyone who will listen/read since I first stumbled onto it almost 5 years ago and apparently I wasn’t the only one.  The site has become something of a national phenomenon and with it, an entire culture has developed.

So what is Woot?  Woot.com is an internet retailer base in Carrollton, TX and the originator of One Day, One Deal.  The concept is simple, a new item goes on sale (at a great price) every day at midnight.  The item is on sale until 11:59pm (central time) or until they are sold out of that item.  Woot.com’s focus is “selling cool stuff cheap” and they always ship for $5.  The woot! style of business became so popular that other retailers, including Amazon.com, Buy.com and Target.com have started their own One  Day, One Deal selling strategies.

Today we will focus on a different kind of bargain shopping.  In the event that you don’t know exactly what you are looking for, there are some sites that have great bargains on a range of items.  By watching/checking these sites regularly you might find a unique idea for that special someone this holiday season.

Twitter is Not Exactly What You Think

Friday, October 9th, 2009

TwitterIconTwitter.  That name seems to come up every day now.  It’s part of the zeitgeist, whether you like it or not.  At first, you had to be a bit of a tech nerd to know what it was or why you would use it.  Then, it began to creep into discussions and articles.  Lately, it is the buzzword that every TV show and web site is fighting to slip in somewhere.  I am truly amazed at how often it comes up.  Yet, the vast majority of people I know still don’t tweet (a message sent via Twitter) or even have a Twitter account.

I hear all kinds of answers to the “are you on Twitter” question.  “I don’t care what other people are doing.”  “I don’t have time for that.” “Twitter and Facebook are blocked on my work computer.”  These are some of my favorites.  These comments tell me a few things, but most importantly I see that there is a lack of understanding when it comes to what Twitter is and why anyone would use it.
